About

Takahashi is the 2010 Olympic bronze medalist, the 2010 world champion, a two-time world silver medalist, a two-time Four Continents champion and a five-time Japanese champion ... He is the first Japanese male skater to win a medal (bronze) at the Olympics and to win the world title (2010) ... Won the world junior championships the first and only time he competed in the event (2002), making him the first Japanese man to hold that title.

Skating idols are Olympic champions Alexei Yagudin and Evgeni Plushenko and Japan's Takeshi Honda ... Moved to Osaka in 2004 to attend university, and the school has built a new ice rink where Takahashi and several other elite skaters can train ... Set then world records with his gold medal-winning scores at the 2008 Four Continents Championships ... Missed all of the 2008-09 season to recover from knee surgery ... Announced his retirement from competition in October 2014.
