IN OUR WORDS

If I wasn't a figure skater ... (Fast) I would be going to University of Oregon and probably playing baseball.

I look up to ... (Fast) my parents! They have supported me for so long and will do anything to help me succeed in this sport, or any other life path that I would choose. Even though we struggle to keep me in skating, they never want to give up and they manage to keeps things going with smiles on their faces. I love them more than anything!

My favorite thing about being a figure skater is ... (Fast) it is a sport that not a lot of people get into so it feels special to be a part of and able to compete at such a high level. I get to travel all over the country, along with international travels, and meet a lot of cool people. I have learned a lot as a person and athlete being in such an amazing sport.

I started skating because ...
(Heritage) well, I actually don't know why ... kind of. My parents tell me that when I was 2 years old (I have vague memories of this), I took the dishes from my little play kitchen center and put them on the bottom of my feet and started scooting around the kitchen floor nonstop, saying "ice skate!" Of course they thought it was cute, but I had to wait until I was 4 to start skating lessons.
... (Fast) my mom would go shopping with me and put me on the ice rink in the mall while she went shopping for things. This then turned into classes...and then a career.

The best moment of my skating career thus far was ... (Heritage) when Nathan and I competed at the 2012 U.S. Championships in San Jose, our training town for the past two seasons. It was so awesome to look into the stands and see our friends all around us, and the support from the local skaters. They even made a banner for us! Definitely one of my favorite moments thus far.
... (Fast) logging into my email last year and finding a congratulations letter from U.S. figuring skating about getting our first JGP assignment. Being on Team USA and going to Australia was the most amazing experience I could ever hope for.

I always ... (Heritage) wear the same T-shirt every night before a competition. The shirt is from a skating show I participated in when I was 5. Lucky for me, my aunt figured I'd be skating for a while, so she got me an adult small instead of a kids' small!
... (Fast) pray and then kiss my cross before coming out of the dressing room. I wouldn't say that its a ritual but I always do it and never take the cross off.
