SKATING NOTES

Began competing together in 2005 ... Previously coached by Bobby Martin, Sheryl Franks and Carrie Wall (2005-10).

Duarte began skating at age 5 because her mom was a skater and is a judge, referee and technical controller - "I used to spend a lot of time when I was young playing in judges' rooms." ... Participated in the Basic Skills Program for one year.

Grafton started skating when he was 9 after watching Tara Lipinski at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games ... Participated in the Basic Skills Program for three years.

PERSONAL NOTES

Duarte has a twin brother, Christopher ... Parents are Joseph, an Engineer, and Allison, a teacher and U.S. Figure Skating official ... Has three Puggles named Sammy Sniffles, George Wigglesworth and Stuart Wigglesworth.

Grafton has a younger brother, Kyle (17) ... Father, Roy, works in insurance and mother, Megan, is a nurse ... Has two dogs named Cooper and Fiona... Graduated North Attleboro High School in June 2010 ... Received an award for scoring highly on the MCAS test ... Member of the National Honor Society ... Received the Presidents award from the Colonial FSC ... Supports the soup kitchen at First Baptist Church ... Tried out for "American Idol" at Gilette Stadium.

IN OUR WORDS

If I wasn't a figure skater ... (Duarte) I would be a soccer player because I used to love playing. I was a good midfielder and forward because I could run fast and kick well. I had great footwork off the ice too!

I look up to ... (Grafton) my parents and my grandparents.

My favorite thing about being a figure skater is ... (Duarte) doing shows because the younger skaters get really excited and look up to me. I also like skating for a cause.

I manage my pre-skate jitters by ... (Grafton) listening to music!

My hobbies are ... (Grafton) singing, skating, friends, being active and music editing.

Something most people don't know about me is ... (Duarte) I am Portuguese. My Dad was born and raised in Lisbon.
