Virtue and Moir began skating together in 1997, when she was seven and he nine ... Moir's elder brother Danny competed at the international junior level as well and now coaches; his mother is a skating coach, and his father played hockey ... They became the first Canadian ice dancers to win the ISU World Junior Championships (in 2006) ... In 2008, at just 18 and 20, they won the world silver medal against a very deep field ... Virtue underwent surgery in October 2008 to repair injuries in her shins due to a condition called chronic exertional compartment sydrome; this injury forced them out of the 2008 ISU Grand Prix Series ... They returned to action at the 2009 Canadian nationals, where they won their second senior title.
