Skating Notes
The Crystallettes earned their fifth consecutive U.S. Synchronized Championships bronze medal in 2009 ... Along with Chicago Jazz, the Crystallettes co-host a weekend clinic each summer to work on choreography and team building ... First competed in a U.S. Figure Skating competition in 1980 ... Medaled internationally two years in a row, earning bronze at the 2007 Prague Open and 2008 Prague Cup.
Team Notes
The Crystallettes senior team was formed in 1993 ... A great source of pride for the city of Dearborn ... Goals include qualifying for the 2010 U.S. World Synchronized Skating Team, skating clean programs and improving at every competition ... Team co-captain Katilyn Peterson has been a Crystallette for 13 years and is the daughter of coach Shannon Peterson ... Team members volunteer with various organizations such as Special Olympics, soup kitchens, programs promoting physical fitness and fun for young girls, and animal shelters ... Team hosted an American Red Cross blood drive in June 2009 ... Performed for the third time at the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Charity Game for Autism in November ... Team will also perform at an Adrian University benefit for cancer research ... Mascot is a giraffe because the animals are tall, elegant and "stick their necks out for others" ... Before entering ice at competitions, the last person in line starts to "fluff" the person's skirt in front of them, and it continues to the front of the line ... Enlisted a ballroom dance specialist for their free skate.
