Skating Notes
The synchronized skating team at Western Michigan University (known as the Broncos) is a student-run club sport ... Varsity team members are required to have passed their novice moves ... The team trains six hours per week on ice and 7 1/2 hours a week off ice, while its individual members are required to work out a minimum of three hours on their own ... The team trains at Lawson Ice Arena at Western Michigan University ... The team does not have captains ... Each spring, a student-run board of five skaters is elected ... The team's season lasts from September to March ... Team members participate in two training periods, one in mid-August and mid-December ... Those interested in joining the team take part in a recruitment weekend in April which involves a mini-camp and tryout ... Before a competition, each team member is "stamped" with a bee, does the Lucky Penny Dance, passes the squeeze and says a prayer.
