IN MY WORDS

I look up to ... with dreamy eyes, Kristi Yamaguchi, Michele Kwan, Yu-Na Kim and Mao Asada. They all amaze me in every possible way. They will forever and always be my role models. I want to be just like them.

I manage my pre-skate jitters by ... well, everyone gets the "jitters" before they skate and I do too! I find it sometimes difficult to control them. Before I step on the ice for my warm up "butterflies" get jumbled up in my stomach. When I get nervous before competition I give my mommy a big bear hug and squeeze her super tight. Once I release her I actually relax a bit, already most of the "butterflies" have found their way out of my body. I squeeze my mommy before every competition now - it completely relieves my jitters. It works.

My hobbies are ... reading, drawing, writing and playing around with my family. Many times I get lost in the book I am reading and I could almost feel exactly what the character is feeling. Every heartbeat, every step, every whisper I can feel and hear. As long as I have a book no matter how alone I am, I can feel excited. Besides reading, drawing is one of my favorite things to do. Often, I grab a piece of paper to doodle and sketch on. A plain white piece of paper is like a newly resurfaced sheet of ice, just plainly wonderful. Always, before I fall asleep I write in a small journal. I store all my thoughts and interests all inside. Writing relaxes my body and just in time for bed. I enjoy many other things besides skating.

My good luck charm is ... a smooth green jewel strung by a stiff red thread that has almost always been around my neck. My jade necklace was like my good luck charm. My grandparents gave it to me the day I was born, but I didn't start wearing it right away. It wasn't until I had fractured my right ankle and had to take a break from skating, that my mom presented me the jade necklace. She had told me that it would protect me and bring me luck as well. My jade necklace is a good luck charm and it means something to me.
