IN MY WORDS
I look up to ... my mom. She's the hardest-working, funniest person I know. She can make anybody laugh and is always willing to work for what needs to be done.
My favorite thing about being a figure skater is ... the feeling at the end of a free skate when my legs are on fire, and I'm pushing as hard as I can. I just feel so free and so alive.
I started skating because ... I hated hockey. My parents put me in hockey classes because my older brother played. I was not a fan. After class one day, I saw the figure skaters and asked if I could try that instead.
My figure skating hero is ... Ross Miner. Without a doubt one of the hardest working and nicest people there is. He's a great role model for everyone in figure skating. I'm pretty lucky to be able to train with him.
I manage my pre-skate jitters by ... listening to "I'm Alive" by Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews.
My favorite thing about performing is ... the crowd. If I do a great job, they get so pumped up with me. If I'm struggling, they support me. It's nice to always have that there.
Something most people don't know about me is ... I'm a huge “Seinfeld” addict. Whenever I'm not actually watching it, I'm just watching it in my head.
The best moment of my figure skating career thus far was ... at the 2012 U.S. Championships. I was so depressed after bombing the short and ending up 10th. But that just made skating a great free skate and pulling up to fourth so much better. I literally had zero expectations of medaling after that short and to end up with the pewter medal was a huge shock. It was awesome that I got to be on the podium with Philip Warren and Tim Dolensky because they're two of my best friends in the skating world.
I always ... rub my eyes before starting a program.
