Makarova is the 2010 Russian champion and a 2010 Olympian.
Competed for the United States in the 2006-07 season, placing seventh as a novice at the U.S. Championships ... Began skating at 7 after seeing her parents do skating tricks ... Parents Larissa Selezneva and Oleg Makarov were pairs bronze medalists at the 1984 Olympic Winter Games for the Soviet Union; they also placed fourth at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, and raked in six national championships, two world junior championships, two European championships and many world medals ... Has won numerous academic awards, including a physical education award, foreign language award, the best student award and two student of the month awards ... Switched coaches following the 2011 Russian championships, moving back to St. Petersburg to train.
