IN MY WORDS

If I wasn't a figure skater, I would ... be a tennis player. I always enjoyed playing tennis with my brother for fun and I'm sure that I could become passionate about tennis if I had to compete in the sport.

I look up to ... my coach Derrick Delmore. He understands me extremely well and is patient and a wonderful mentor in both skating and life. He is a lifelong friend and I aspire to be more like him every day.

My favorite thing about being a figure skater is ... going to different countries to compete for Team USA. I love to travel and see different cultures.

I started skating because ... of a kindergarten field trip. My mom signed me up to group classes before the field trip to make sure I was at least acquainted with the ice beforehand. My first coach who taught the group classes picked me out and believed I might be a good skater in the future. I started taking private lessons with her soon after and 13 years later, here I am.

I manage my pre-skate jitters by ... putting on my Beats Studio headphones and blasting music before I compete. The headphones are so soundproof that I can put on any music I'm in the mood for and just tune out everybody else. This is an amazing tool for focusing and being able to relax before competing and helps to keep away distractions from my ears.

My hobbies are ... playing computer games, piano and tennis.

The best moment of my skating career thus far was ... competing at my first JGP last year in Italy. It was an unbelievable experience to represent Team USA at a qualifying international competition and the lessons learned and memories gained from it are irreplaceable. Being part of a team and representing the country you love while competing in the sport you are extremely passionate about is the best feeling in the world. Making friends from many different countries and seeing the sights of different cultures is an amazing and invigorating experience.
