He began skating when he was five ... He became the first man from the Czech Republic to medal at the European Championships in 15 years when he took the silver in 2007 ... When he won the European title a year later, in 2008, he became the first Czech to hold that crown in 22 years ... He was in contention at the 2008 World Championships after the short program, but a disastrous free skate dropped him down to 15th place.
