In the summer of 2007, he was suspended from national competition until the end of October and from international competition until the end of December after being arrested in Osaka for driving under the influence of alcohol; after his suspension ended, he decided to skip the 2007-08 season entirely ... he returned to competition for the 2008-09 season and performed very well, winning his first national title that year ... he is coached by his mother, Noriko Odo, when in Japan, but he moved to the U.S. in 2008 to work with Morozov ... he is the 17th descendant of Nobunaga Oda (1534-1582), the famous Japanese warlord during the age of the civil war.
