Takahashi will miss all of the 2008-09 season ... He decided in November to undergo surgery to repair the ACL and meniscus of his right knee so that he could be healthy for the 2009-10 Olympic season.

Takahashi won the world junior championships the first and only time he competed in the event (2002), making him the first Japanese man to hold that title ... His skating idols are Olympic champions Alexei Yagudin and Evgeni Plushenko and Japan's Takeshi Honda ... He moved to Osaka in 2004 to attend university, and the school has built a new ice rink where Takahashi and several other elite skaters can train ... He set world records with his gold medal-winning scores at the 2008 Four Continents Championships, but he couldn't duplicate them at worlds, finishing off the podium in fourth.
