With his world championship in 2007, he became the first Frenchman to win the world title in 42 years, since Alain Calmat in 1965 ... His European championship in 2004 was the first for a French man in 40 years ... He began skating at age four because his two older sisters skated; he originally wanted to play hockey, but his mom signed him up for figure skating lessons, and he immediately liked the jumping ... He won the bronze medal in his debut at the 2002 European Championships ... His 2007-08 short program has been composed especially for him ... His former coaches include J.C. Simond, Andrei Berezintsev, Laurent Depouilly and Véronique Guyon ... Simond, during his competitive career, won the 1981 and 1982 European silver medal ... He left Simond after the 2009 World Championships and temporarily re-joined Depouilly prior to the ISU World Team Trophy.
