Began skating at age 5 because his older sister skated, he was inspired after watching the figure skating competition at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games, and he was encouraged by his doctor at a young age to participate in skating or gymnastics as a cure for his constant ear infections ... His mom put him in hockey skates to learn and soon discovered that he had a talent for figure skating ... Began in the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program in Stoneham, Mass. (Nancy Kerrigan's home rink) in 1995-96 ... Has even skated in a few shows with Kerrigan ... Has run a 5:25 mile in an annual one-mile race ... Served on the Junior Activities Committee and as a volunteer Basic Skills instructor at his old rink ... Has skated in multiple shows benefiting the Jimmy Fund, Salvation Army and the Make-A-Wish Foundation ... Hobbies include playing tennis, listening to music, reading, going to the beach, working out, cooking and traveling ... Favorite foreign city to which he's traveled is The Hague, Netherlands, because "the architecture and green country is beautiful" ... Says he has a solid dedication to school and grades ... Considers himself a perfectionist ... Biggest life-defining moment is coming in first at the 2007 World Junior Championships ... If he could be on a reality TV show, he would be on "Real World/Road Rules Challenge" ... Wants to become a physician specializing in sports medicine ... Most prized possession is his iPod ... Cousin, Caroline Hallisey, was a U.S. speedskater who competed at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics, and he has an aunt who competed with the Haydenettes synchronized skating team ... Overcome a staph infection in his ankle just before the 2005 State Farm U.S Championships in Portland, Ore. ... Would like to meet Jessica Stam (because she is gorgeous), Barack Obama (for obvious reasons), Lance Armstrong (because he has battled adversity more than once) and Tyra Banks (because "America's Next Top Model" needs some serious updating) ... Music on his iPod includes Katy Perry, Keane, Coldplay, Sara Bareilles, Queen, Lang Lang, Rilo Kiley and more ... Loves cooking and experimenting with food; specialty is making pancakes.
