IN MY WORDS
If I wasn't a figure skater ... I would have a nice relaxing life where all I had to worry about would be school and work ... How boring!
I look up to ... Jason Lezak for his performance at the 2008 Olympics. He anchored the U.S. 4×100-meter freestyle relay team that won the gold medal and set a new world record. In the final 25 meters, Lezak overtook French team anchor Alain Bernard (the world record holder in the 100-meter freestyle going into the relay) despite Bernard having nearly a full body length's advantage when Lezak started his leg and half a body length with 25 meters from the end. Lezak's split was 46.06 seconds, the fastest split in history. I think this is one of the greatest moments in sports history.
My favorite thing about being a figure skater is ... mastering a new jump and showing off in competition practices.
My figure skating hero is ... Michael Weiss, for being a great role model and helping young skaters (http://michaelweiss.org/mission.htm) and Scott Hamilton for his success with skating in the entertainment industry.
I manage my pre-skate jitters by ... well, whenever I start to feel worried I just decide to be awesome instead. I also listen to Reggae music.
My favorite thing about performing is ... the focus and determination that take over during a flawless performance.
After I'm done skating, I want to ... perform in select shows and also give back to the sport and Team USA by serving as an international judge.
My hobbies are ... playing guitar and studying for difficult physics exams with my friends from school, Casey, Mike and Diana.
My pre-skating ritual is to ... pack. You could call it an instinct or fixed action pattern, if you wish.
The best moment of my figure skating career thus far was ... winning the free skate at the 2011 U.S. Championships.
Something most people don't know about me is ... how important education is to me. I am critical of myself when I think I've underperformed in school. (I spent the entire flight back home from the JGP Final in China studying for my physics final, which I was late for because I came straight from the airport.)
