(01/17/2013) - Two U.S. synchronized skating teams kick off the international season this week at the Cup of Berlin in Germany. California Gold (Artesia, Calif.) and the Hockettes (Ann Arbor, Mich.) are set to compete Jan. 18-19 at Sport Forum Berlin Hohenschönhausen.

California Gold, representing the All Year FSC, has won the U.S. pewter medal four times (2007-09, '11) and placed fourth at this event in 2011. The team opened its international season last year with a seventh-place finish at the French Cup and placed sixth at the 2012 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.

Ann Arbor FSC representatives the Hockettes are two-time U.S. junior champions (2005, '07) and won the junior title at this event in 2005. At their most recent international assignment, the Hockettes won bronze at the 2011 Spring Cup.

Both teams are also set to compete at the 2013 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, Feb. 27-March 3 in Plymouth, Mich.
