(07/23/2012) - Reigning Italian champions Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte are rising stars. The ice dance team finished sixth at the world championships this year and just off the podium, in fourth place, at the European championships. They had missed the 2011 European championships because of an injury to Lanotte's knee.

Although Paola Mezzadri is still their primary coach in Italy, Cappellini and Lanotte began working with Igor Shpilband in Novi, Mich., in June 2012. Ludmila Vlasova continues to choreograph for the team, as she has for some time.

On behalf of, Sarah and Drew posed five questions to the Italian duo. You're from Italy, home to some of the best food in the world. What are some of your favorite dishes?

Cappellini: How many can we say? I'm going have to go with the obvious: pasta, in all the variations that we have. And T-bone steak, in middle Italy.

Lanotte: And pizza, of course. It's typical! And I love fish, because my family is coming from the south of Italy, and there are lots of different ways to cook lots of different fishes. It's really, really good. If you could skate to any music at all, without judging system requirements, what would it be?

Lanotte: Wow, this is tough. I don't know, because there is so much music that I love.

Cappellini: I have one that's never going to be a free dance, but I'd like to skate to "Talking to the Moon," from Bruno Mars. He is talking to the moon hoping that the person that he loves can hear him. I would like to do something for my mom, because my mom was the one who first put me on skates, and she passed away in 2006. I would love to be on the ice, skating and thinking about her. When you're not skating, what's your favorite leisure-time activity?

Cappellini: For me, it would be spending time with my family. I'm always at my sister's house; I spend a lot of my weekends there.

Lanotte: When I'm not skating, I really like to try to spend more time with my family, but also with my friends. We don't have time for this, usually. Finding and keeping friends is important, and it's difficult when you're so busy with training. What's your favorite movie or TV show?

Cappellini: How I Met Your Mother.

Lanotte: There's a TV show I really like, Family Guy, and I have a few movies that I really like -- one is Fight Club. What events are you looking forward to watching at the London Olympics?

Cappellini: Gymnastics -- I'm such a fan of gymnastics. I'm so sad Nastia Liukin didn't make it. I'm rooting for Gabrielle Douglas; she's the best bar worker in the world. I followed the U.S. trials.

Lanotte: I don't have one specifically; I'm just going to watch as much as I can. Some friends that we know are going there. I'm going to watch all the Italian Olympic team, particularly the boyfriend of Carolina Kostner, [race-walker] Alex Schwazer, who won the gold medal in Beijing. And some other athletes are going to compete from our club, the club of the Italian police [Fiamme Azzurre].
