Yamaguchi to assist Lake Tahoe with Olympic bid
1992 Olympic gold medalist among five former Olympians enlisted to bring Games to resort region

The Lake Tahoe Winter Games Exploratory Committee announced Friday that Yamaguchi, the 1992 Olympic gold medalist, and four other former Olympians have agreed to help develop an Olympic bid for the Reno/Tahoe area. Also among those lending their support is Bret Hedican, Yamaguchi's husband and a two-time Olympic hockey player.
The other athletes enlisted to assist the effort are speed skater Andy Gabel, freestyle skier Jonny Moseley and downhill skier Tamara McKinney.
Lake Tahoe is partly in California and partly in Nevada, with the majority of its world-class ski resorts located on the California side of the border. Reno is about an hour northeast of the lake. Nearby Squaw Valley, Calif., hosted the Winter Olympics in 1960.
Other U.S. sites that have expressed interest in hosting the Winter Olympics are Denver, Salt Lake City and Bozeman, Mont.
The United States Olympic Committee has until next year to submit a formal bid for the 2022 Games.
