(01/14/2011) - OTTAWA, ON -- Over 250 of Canada's top-ranked figure skaters will be invading Victoria, B.C., for the 2011 BMO Skate Canada Junior National and the 2011 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships. The elite group of Canadian skaters will compete at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre from January 17-23, 2011. Novice and Junior skaters compete at the BMO Skate Canada Junior Nationals taking place from the 17-21 and the seniors will be at the BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships from the 21-23.

"It's been five years since we hosted a major event in Victoria and we could not be happier to be back on the west coast," said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO. "The local organizing committee here in Victoria has done a great job in preparing for our largest event of the season and I am positive that we can look forward to a well-executed event. Our skaters have proven this year on the international circuit that fans will see world-class skating right here at home."

This will be the third time the city has hosted the senior event. It was held here in 1978 and 1988. Victoria was also the site of Skate Canada International in 1984, 1992 and 2006.

"For some 15 years we at BMO have had a strong and rewarding partnership with Skate Canada," said Sandy Bourne, Vice-President, Advertising, Sponsorship/Events and Merchandising for BMO Financial Group. "BMO has had the privilege of being a part of skating across the country -- from the CanSkate "learn to skate" program to this, the biggest national event of all, the 2011 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships. We're proud and excited, along with skating fans to be in Victoria for what will be a stellar skating event."

Athletes will vie for spots on the Skate Canada National Team and the Canadian teams that will compete at the 2011 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2011 and the 2011 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships.

Tickets are still available for both the 2011 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships and the 2011 BMO Skate Canada Junior Nationals. Purchase tickets online at www.selectyourtickets.com, by phone at 1.866.514.5050 or in person at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre box office.
