"What's So Great about Figure Skating?" contest launches

(12/22/2010) - Do you have a video camera and a love of figure skating? If so, you could win $100 through a contest that will help to inspire skaters around the world.

The "What's So Great about Figure Skating?" video contest is being sponsored by Skaters, parents, coaches and fans are all encouraged to make short videos of themselves answering the question: "What's so great about figure skating?" These clips will be assembled to create a video that will serve as encouragement to skaters and their parents, and will let potential new skaters know what is so great about this sport.

A short introductory video, as well as directions for uploading videos to the YouTube channel, can be found at Everyone who submits a video before Jan. 15, 2011, will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 gift certificate for any item on or from one of its 24 partner retail stores.

"Figure skating is such a rewarding sport, but it is frequently an emotional rollercoaster," said Ryan Jahnke, the founder of "I want to continue using my experiences and to help support others in this sport that gave me so much."

The "What's So Great about Figure Skating?" video is the second in a series that encourages skaters to stick with competitive skating. The first video, "Ryan Jahnke's Greatest Falls," can be found at was founded by the former U.S. World Figure Skating Team member as a marketplace to lower expenses for skating families and raise money for skating clubs and teams. More than 2,600 new and gently used skating items are listed on the site. Forty-three skating entities-most of which are U.S. Figure Skating member clubs-are registered on the site and receive a percentage of the sale price of each item bought and sold by their club members.
