ISU announces star-studded lineup for Skate Canada

(06/15/2010) - OTTAWA, ON -- A talented field of competitors has been announced for the 2010 Skate Canada International. The event will take place in Kingston, Ontario at the K-Rock Centre from October 28-31, 2010.

"Obviously we are very pleased with the lineup for this event. Fans are going to see Canadian favorites as well as international stars. For many of these skaters this will be the first time competing in Canada since the Olympics," said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO. "It's going to be an action-packed three days with strong skating in every discipline."

Canadians in the field include Olympic and world champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, two-time world medalist Patrick Chan, 2008 world medalists Jessica Dubé and Bryce Davison, and Canadian medalist Cynthia Phaneuf. The international field includes reigning world medalists Laura Lepistö of Finland in ladies and Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov from Russia in pair. A number of top world and Olympic athletes round out the competitors in all four disciplines, men's, ladies, pair and ice dance.

2010 Skate Canada International is the second of six stops on the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. Entries for all six events were announced by the ISU over the weekend.
