Team Braemar, Skyliners compete in Sweden

(03/11/2010) - Two U.S. synchronized skating teams will vie for the sport's top junior-level international prize March 11-13 at the 2010 World Synchronized Skating Challenge Cup for Juniors in Gothenburg, Sweden. Team Braemar, the reigning two-time U.S. junior champions, and the Skyliners, the 2010 U.S. junior silver medalists, will represent the United States at the event.

Competition begins Friday, March 12 with the short program and concludes Saturday, March 13 with the free skate.

The field consists of 20 teams from 15 countries: Belarus, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

U.S. TEAMS
This will be the second consecutive appearance at this event for Team Braemar (Braemar-City of Lakes FSC/Minneapolis, Minn.), which finished fifth last year. The team earned a berth to this competition by winning the World Junior Team Selection Competition in January. Braemar won the silver medal at the Spring Cup last month, its first international assignment of the season. It will skate its short program to "Running" by the London Symphony Orchestra, Frank Peterson, Sarah Brightman and Klaus Hirschberger, and its free skate to music from the India: Kingdom of the Tiger movie soundtrack, "Main Ager Kahoon" by Vishal and Shekar, and "Dhoom Taana" by Javed Akhtar.

The Skyliners (SC of New York/New York, N.Y.; Windy Hill FSC/Greenwich, Conn.) will make their first appearance at the World Challenge Cup for Juniors. The team earned a berth to this competition by finishing second at the World Junior Team Selection Competition in January. It won its first international assignment this year -- the Prague Cup. The Skyliners will skate their short program to "If I Had My Way" by Linda Eder and their free skate to selections from E.S. Posthumus.
