Silk Skate for the Heart to air Jan. 31 on NBC

Abbott among those to skate in televised event

(01/28/2010) - Jordin Sparks, the winner of the sixth season of American Idol, will perform live on a nationally televised special, Silk Skate for the Heart, on NBC-TV on Sunday, January 31 at 4 p.m. ET. She will be joined by Charice Pempengco, the 16-year-old Philippine international singing sensation.

Silk Skate of the Heart is a two-hour ice skating extravaganza, featuring numerous 2010 Winter Olympic nominees and former Olympic medalists skating to the live sounds of both Sparks and Pempmego. The show, which was recorded at the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, Ill., features reigning world champion Evan Lysacek, 2009 ice dancing world silver medalists and 2006 Olympic silver medalists Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, 2006 Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen, 2007 world junior champion Caroline Zhang, 2008 U.S. champion Mirai Nagasu, three-time U.S. champion Johnny Weir, 2009 U.S. champion Alissa Czisny, and more.

The Silk Skate for the Heart show brings music and figure skating talent together to raise awareness of heart disease to benefit the American Heart Association Sparks will perform four of her top selling singles in Silk Skate for the Heart, including; her chart topping singles "Battlefield" and "No Air" as well as "SOS" and "One Step at a Time." Since winning American Idol, Sparks won an American Music Award for Favorite Artist-Adult Contemporary Music, an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist and a Teen Choice Award for Choice Music "Hookup" song. She also received a Grammy nomination for "Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals," as well as two nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards for "Best Female Video," and "Best New Artist."

Pempengco reduced both Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres to tears during appearances on their shows. Pempengco will perform her top hit "Note to God" as well as "Pryamid," "In This Song," and "Breath Out" in"Silk Skate for the Heart."
