ITNY to honor Paul Wylie, Lar Lubovitch
Nation's premier ice dance company hosts annual benefit gala in October
In addition to honoring Paul Wylie, ITNY will present a Choreography Award to Lar Lubovitch, in recognition of his many works for skaters, from pieces for Wylie, John Curry and Peggy Fleming, to the televised ice ballet, The Planets.
The Ice Theatre of New York will present the Ice Angel Award to Sky Rink for its recognition of ice skating as performing art and its long-time support.
The Gala Performance is scheduled to feature a new work by choreographer Douglas Webster, as well as selections from ITNY's existing repertory, which may include La Revolte des Enfants by Alberto del Saz, 2:1 by David Liu, The Dreame by Jacqulynn Buglisi, Draughtsman's Contract by Elisa Monte and Heart by JoAnna Mendl Shaw. Among Lubovitch's works, Gershwin Suite and Tilt-a-Whirl may be presented during this evening's performance.
The evening will support Ice Theatre of New York's New Works and Young Artists Series, an outreach program for public school children in Manhattan and Queens, as well as all of our 2009-2010 season's artistic programming.
Benefit tickets start at $350 for individuals and $3,000 for tables. To buy tickets, please call the Ice Theatre office, (212) 929-5811, e-mail itny@icetheatre.org or visit www.icetheatre.org.
