Two U.S. synchro teams to compete in Switzerland

(03/12/2009) - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two U.S. synchronized skating teams will vie for the sport's top junior-level international prize March 12-14 at the 2009 World Synchronized Skating Challenge Cup for Juniors in Neuchatel, Switzerland. Team Braemar, the 2009 U.S. junior champions, and Chicago Jazz, the 2009 U.S. junior silver medalists and two-time bronze medalists at this event, will represent the United States.

Competition begins Friday, March 13 with the short program and concludes Saturday, March 14, with the free skate.

The field consists of 20 teams from 15 countries: Australia, Belarus, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

U.S. TEAMS
Chicago Jazz (Chicago FSC/Chicago) returns to the World Challenge Cup for Juniors for the seventh year in hopes of improving upon last year's fourth-place finish and securing its second international medal of the season, after winning bronze at the 2009 French Cup. The Jazz edged Braemar, 180.55-179.48, at the World Junior Qualifying Competition Jan. 9-11 in Fond du Lac, Wis. Its short program is set to "Life is a Bowl of Cherries" from the Fosse movie soundtrack. It will perform its free skate to selections from the Moulin Rouge movie soundtrack.

Team Braemar (Braemar-City of Lakes FSC/Minneapolis, Minn) will make its first appearance at the World Challenge Cup for Juniors. The team earned a berth to this competition by finishing second at the World Junior Qualifying Competition in January. In its first international assignment this year -- the Spring Cup -- Braemar won the silver medal. It will skate its short program to "Invincible" by Carola and its free skate to selections from the Quest for Camelot movie soundtrack.
