Fleming, a figure skating icon and longtime TV skating commentator will make her first appearance as host of a Disson Skating production at The Skating for Life Benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Oct. 15, in the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill. Fleming was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 and has since made numerous efforts to help support breast cancer research and outreach.
In addition to The Skating for Life Benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure show, Fleming also will host three other skating productions in the Disson Skating lineup: Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons Tribute on Ice, Oct. 25, in Hoffman Estates, Ill., Skate for the Heart, Nov. 19, in Dayton, Ohio, and the Progressive Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular, Dec. 23, in Rapid City, S.D.
"I'm privileged to join the talented cast of skaters and musical artists who have been assembled for the Disson Skating programs," says Fleming. "Two of the shows have special meaning to me, The Skating for Life show, benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure, as I am a breast cancer survivor, and the Skate for the Heart show, which I am dedicating to my dad and sister, who both died of heart disease at an early age."
In addition to working in front of the camera, Fleming's presence will be felt behind the scenes. Fleming and her husband, Dr. Greg Jenkins, own and operate Fleming Jenkins Vineyards & Winery in California. Their acclaimed winery is graciously providing guests with an excellent selection of wines during the receptions that will follow eight of the nationally televised skating shows this season produced by Disson Skating. Fleming Jenkins also donates to breast cancer research and awareness through its Victories Rosé for Research program.
According to Fleming, "My husband, Greg Jenkins, and I have greatly admired the creativity of the Disson Skating shows' blend of music and skating and in the television productions that follow. We are pleased that our winery joins an esteemed group of sponsors in bringing this exciting entertainment to live audiences and television viewers around the globe."
Steve Disson comments, "Fleming Jenkins is graciously providing our VIP guests with tastings of their excellent wines during the cast parties that follow the Disson Skating Shows. The exceptional quality of the wine is a natural addition to the exciting evenings of world-class music and figure skating. Since Peggy will serve as the guest host for four of our shows this season, this is a perfect fit for Disson Skating."
